Unlike a shingle roof, which you usually install and forget about for the 25 year life of the roof, a slate roof needs periodic maintenance. Slate roof repairs are not technically complex but do require some specialized tools and methods, Tar is NEVER an appropriate repair product for a slate roof or flashings
A properly installed and maintained slate roof is sure to last hundreds of years and increase of value of your home. These 'green' roofs have been in Europe for hundreds of years with a great service record. Since they last over 100 years they also have the lowest cost of ownership over the life of the roof.

Base Fees and Charge Rates
A $25.00 trip fee, within 20 miles, $50.00 for up to 45 miles,deductible from the cost of any work done, is charged for looking at any project for estimating purposes. This helps offset my increased gas and insurance costs.
Hale Construction Services minimum Charge is $250.00 for any work, though I may make exceptions at my discretion, usually for repeat customers that don't require two trips.
The $250, is the base fee This includes any travel time and time for picking up any materials. For slate, It's from $250.00 to $300.00 for the 1st. slate, and from $15.00 to $25.00 for each slate thereafter, that can, or is suspected to cause a leak up to the amount you have decided to invest in your roof. Special order slates may cost more. We can also perform any carpentry repairs that are needed while we are on the roof, these will be priced on an as needed basis
Why be secretive? Other qualified contractors are going to be hard pressed to do a repair for less then $250.00 so why not be up front
$250.00 isn't much when you consider I almost always have to look at the job to see what slate are needed, what hooks are needed, etc. That means at least 2 trips to your house before the work starts. Each slate roof uses different size and color of slate.
It's almost impossible to show up on the job with the right slate. Hale Construction carries many sizes of slate, and has access to many other types found through out the north east. We will take the time to find the correct type of slate for a near seamless repair to your roof.
Your plumber that can charge a flat $65.00 per hour has got his truck loaded with most everything he needs and 99% of his work is identical in nature. A simple question or two from him can narrow his scope of work on the phone to only a few possibilities. Not so with a roof leak.
Saving money with a lower price is very often more expensive than any other option. The low cost repair is usually done incorrectly will almost always have to be taken out and redone in the near future.
